A luta das personagens femininas em Marajó : as relações de poder e gênero vividas pela personagem pagã Orminda

Abstract

The subject of this paper is the relationship between gender and power experienced by the female character Orminda in the novel Marajó by the Pará writer Dalcídio Jurandir. The main objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between gender and power in the novel, specifically how the female character Orminda is exposed to sexism and racial prejudice throughout the narrative. To this end, the research sought to identify and discuss how Orminda's physical, behavioral and cultural characteristics stigmatize her by violating the norms imposed by patriarchy and threatening the status quo on the fictional island where the story takes place, as well as to explain the historical, cultural, social and economic factors that contribute to Orminda's stigmatization by patriarchy on the island of Marajoara in the early 20th century, within the context of the novel. The methodological aspects of the research were structured around a bibliographical search that engaged with issues of gender and power to understand the dynamics of prejudice, both racial and sexist, and to understand the reflections within the fiction, complementing the literary analysis of the female character Orminda. The results obtained were an understanding of the historical construction of sexism on the fictional island, which had an impact on the social relations of the female characters and especially on the trajectory of the character Orminda through her compositional tripod: the acalanto, Marajoara female shamanism and the legend of Boto and Bota, which determined her path as a pagan legend. The factors analyzed suggest that these are stigmas constructed by the patriarchy with the intention of marking and suppressing the subversive female gender.
