A importância do ato simbólico de nomeação : um estudo sobre o uso da linguagem, promoção e visibilidade de mulheres no campo científico

Abstract

The aim of this work is to answer whether women in the scientific field are appropriating the right granted by Law 12,605/12, which determines the mandatory use of gender inflection to name a profession or diploma degree in accordance with the title's sex/gender. The language which establishes the generic masculine as universal is part of the signification system that (re)produces a generalized understanding of social relations and, therefore, functions as a tool for the maintenance of male domination by naturalizing certain meanings. The use of the generic male nomination is part of the rules that govern the competitive dispute in the scientific field, currently, with a predominance of female agents. Therefore, the research aims to identify whether the scientific field is undergoing transformations in accordance with the objectivity of the field, regarding the use of language. To contemplate the complexity of the proposed objective, the research is outlined as mixed, presenting univariate and multivariate statistical analyzes in the light of the bourdieusian perspective, with emphasis on the concept of habitus. The results of Contend Analysis indicated an increase in frequency of gender inflection, over time, in the degrees obtained by women, for the 634 documents analyzed in the period from April/2012 to December/2017 of the seven stricto sensu of UFMT´s PPGs from campus Cuiabá that comprised the sample. The results obtained for the Multivariate Factor Analysis showed that students supervised by female teachers, who self-label themselves in accordance with the inflection of sex/gender, tend to contribute to the promotion of female visibility, as they often produce some type of knowledge about women in their research. As language directly impacts the perception/appreciation and action matrices, structuring the understanding of reality, and, as the objectivity of the scientific field is changing its structure because its composition currently has a majority of female agents, we conclude that the symbolic act of appointment is able to promote the visibility of female identity in this field, providing participatory parity in the competitive struggles within the scientific field. The acceptance of feminized language, as well as its incorporation in the records of the scientific field, can serve as a tool in the fight against male domination and, also, it can result in the promotion of the displacement of invisibility experienced by women in the various subfields, because when announcing the category women in accordance with objectivity, we will be reorganizing the understanding of social reality.
